As a gift to all our PRPL Fork Fest food film loving friends around the world, we have brought together some of the films from this year's Fest and removed the geoblocks (with permission of course!!). Please enjoy them at your leisure. For those of you in Canada, we'd appreciate it if you invite your friends around the world to come watch virtually. And help us spread the word!! 

Ranging from hilarious Vancouver filmed comedy short Serious Lees and animation must see Soggy Flakes to South Africa's first-time filmmaker and Director Tembisa Jordaan's Ulwandle Ushile / Meeting The Tides, an intriguing environmental film that introduces a group of village women needing to forage mussels from a national park in order to survive. Have You Eaten?, COVID 19: The Future of Food, The Art of Eating, The Great List of Everything: The French Fries, and feature au chic resto pop complete this curated ensemble of National Film Board of Canada selections stretching from 2020 to 1976. Enjoy.

This intriguing look at two moments in Quebec's food history captures 1970s excess and 1990s shortages. As one of the oldest settled regions of Canada, Quebec is known as a pioneer in regional cuisine, quality local food producers and artisans from wild meats to cheeses, and a centre of fine restaurants. In 1976's short The Art of Eating, Québec’s then Chef of the year, now icon, Marcel Kretz prepares an elaborate feast for members of a gourmet dining club. 1991's Au chic resto pop feature looks at poverty in Montreal and the role a soup kitchen with a live soundtrack in helping locals. The modern viewer may be surprised at times how anachronistic things seem and at times how after 30 years we still are dealing with the same challenges. The viewer will have lots to chew on. The Fest thanks the assistance of globally respected The National Film Board of Canada for the opportunity to share these films with you on a complimentary basis.

Take this once in a life-time opportunity to explore London and Scotland, its beauty and bounty of tastes through the eyes of the three celebrated Roca brother chefs of Michelin three-star restaurant El Cellar de Can Roca in Girona, Spain.

THE FINER THINGS

Sometimes life is so much better when we slow down and take the time to enjoy the finer things in life. These three films are revealing and mouth watering at the same time. Learn about prized Croatian prosciutto and why it is so sought after, the foraged bounty of our own backyard in coastal British Columbia with a Top Chef Canada winner and then join a search through Italian forests for that most famous of unique foods in our third film, fast becoming a "must watch" on any serious gourmet's list. 

SEA AND LAND

For thousands of years the sea and the land have been sources of sustenance, survival, and a way to connect with nature. This group of films touches on these themes in dramatic ways. From an experimental short from Korea, the west coast area of the Quinault Indian Nation, spice forests of Guatemala to the ocean off South Africa, these films cause us to reflect again and perhaps inspire change in our appreciation.

OUR RELATIONSHIP TO FOOD

After breathing, eating is a fundamental necessity and food is an integral part of our sustenance. This diverse group of revealing films takes us across the world to reveal how others relate to food. Whether merely as a necessity for survival, or as a desire for unique taste. Come along as we travel from Iran to Russia, Canada to South Africa, Algeria to Japan and the jungles of Ecuador.

COMEDY THREE WAYS

This collection of three hilarious films takes you on an adventure that will pull on your heartstrings. Everyone will relate to the humourous situation encountered. And if you've ever attended a cocktail party, particularly as a server..... The feature film Food Club from Denmark takes us all on a cooking school holiday to Italy's beautiful Puglia region where friendship, delicious dishes and romantic twinges come together to remind us all what is important in life.  

ANIMATION BREAK

Take a break for some witty animation about food. Three short episode's from Quebec's amusing The Great List of Everything exposing the "truth" about The French Fries, The Bread, and The Noodles. Then a new animator and official competition entrant presents his post ramen experience with Oh Crap... We've also included Vancouver's hilarious Soggy Flakes which will have you never looking at breakfast the same way again. Enjoy on us!!

RESTAURANT TRANSITIONS

In this intriguing look at life viewed through the lense of restaurants we see the continual transitions happening and how they affect our perceptions, tastes, and understanding of the world around us. Three films from across Canada bring us to The Recipe For Balance with Michelin two-starred celebrity chef Ricardo Camarena as he adapts his approach to cuisine and the operation of his restaurants in Valencia, Spain to the new COVID-influenced world we all now experience.
